Elevate your workouts with CBD & CBG

CBD, or cannabidiol, is everywhere these days. From street corner signs to dinner conversations, it’s rise in popularity has spread like wildfire.


CBD is available in any form you can think of, including topicals, gummies, tinctures or even your favorite cocktail!


Ingestible forms of CBD are typically used for overall wellness and pain management. Studies have shown that CBD may reduce chronic pain by working through the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The endocannabinoid system is a biological system found in our bodies that processes CBD, CBG or any other cannabinoid found in hemp.


CBD topicals, however, can be used very effectively for direct treatment of specific areas of the body. CBD topicals are an excellent option for those dealing with joint and muscular soreness. Thus, making it the perfect companion for pre- and post-workout. 


Aside from CBD, did you know that there are other cannabinoids found in hemp that can help with inflammation and pain? It’s important to understand that while CBD is one amazing cannabinoid, there are over 100 cannabinoids found in hemp, each showing varying effects.


CBG, or cannabigerol, for instance, has also been used as an anti-inflammatory and pain reducer. CBG topicals are quickly becoming a popular option for athletes and weekend warriors seeking natural workout supplements that do not need to be ingested and target specific parts of the body that are experiencing pain or soreness.

Growing up, I played every sport I could, including football, soccer, ski racing, basketball and rugby. These sports, however, took a toll on my body. I have torn ACLs, broken bones, and dislocated my shoulder multiple times, along with many other injuries. Needless to say, I experience joint and muscle pain on a regular basis, making my workouts an uphill battle.


When I introduced CBD and CBG topicals into my workout routine, I paid close attention to its effectiveness in battling my chronic joint pain and sore muscles. CBD and CBG topicals work best when used on a consistent basis. Often, the soreness you had been noticing before doesn’t bother you anymore and you simply go about your day or workout without restriction. It’s typically the second use of CBD and CBG topicals that cement their value as your new favorite workout companion.


I have found that this regimen typically works best for me:


  • Pre-workout (10 - 15 minutes before workout): 
    • I apply either the Active Stick or Active Body Butter to any joint or muscle experiencing tightness that I know will hinder my workout.
      • Frankincense essential oil used in these products has been shown to work as an anti-inflammatory and help open up nasal passages and airways.

 

  • Post-workout:
    • I use the Recovery Stick or Recovery Body Butter. Pro tip: apply after a shower to open up pores and maximize benefits.
      • Arnica essential oil helps boost circulation to speed recovery from strenuous workouts.

 

  • Nighttime:
    • At night, I prefer to use the Calm Stick or Calm Body Butter.
      • Using CBD and CBG topicals at bedtime help continue the recovery process. The lavender essential oil offers a calming effect that promotes a peaceful night’s sleep.

While CBD & CBG topicals are not a cure, when used properly, they can make a big impact on our overall health. They can help us to feel ready to take on the day instead of allowing aches and pains negatively impact our lives.
